To start, let's take a closer look at whether or not to caulk the top of the tall baseboards. In the image below, you can see the difference between a tall baseboard that has been caulked at the top and a tall baseboard that has not been caulked.
Visually much cleaner
As can be seen in the image, it looks much neater when the baseboards are properly caulked at the top. This way, there is no longer a gap visible between the baseboard and the wall, and thus the baseboards will stand out less or be less distracting.
Practical for moisture and dirt
Besides the visual effect that caulking the top of the tall baseboards creates on the floor, walls, and the entire room, caulking baseboards also has a practical advantage. By caulking, you seal the space behind the baseboard, preventing dirt and/or moisture from getting behind it. Quite handy!
