At Solza.nl we are regularly asked what exactly the order of work is when we come to lay a floor with our laying service. Our floor layers always work in a fixed order, not only because the work can then be carried out faster and more efficiently, but also because this is the most pleasant for our customers in the long term.
First plinth or first paste PVC floor
PVC floors in a dryback PVC form, also called paste PVC, must be glued to an even surface. Often this requires leveling. With slab PVC floors, it is to first mount skirting boards and only then start the work of the floor. Whether this is a good idea for the long term, however, remains to be seen... However, at Solza.nl we not work in this way and this has several reasons.
First plinth means never another plinth
To begin with, it would be necessary to level against the skirting boards, so that the plinth will, as it were, form one whole with both the surface and the wall. Do you want to get rid of a cord behind this specific plinth over a certain period of time or do you perhaps want to change the skirting boards completely? Then you will have to demolish your floor for this.
First floor means a nicer finish
In addition, a plinth, in addition to being protective of the wall, also acts as a beautiful finish for the floor. In principle, PVC floors can be laid without skirting boards, but you will always be able to see small edges or it costs a lot more in terms of labor because more precise work has to be done.
First plinth or first Click PVC floor
In contrast to adhesive PVC floors, click PVC floors are laid floating. This means that these floors are not glued to the substrate. These floors should be laid loose with space to work on a suitable subfloor. For this reason, a plinth with this type of flooring is also a nice bridging or finishing of the space between the wall and the floor. With these floors, it is therefore not recommended to first mount the plinth and only then install the floor.
First plinth or first laminate
Just as with click PVC floors, it is also necessary to keep a distance from walls and other obstacles such as window frames when laying the floor. Why? Because laminate flooring, with wood as part of the material, needs space to work. The floorboards must be able to expand and shrink and for this a certain space is necessary. However, you don't want to constantly look at this space between floor and wall. For this reason, it is recommended for laminate floors to apply the plinth only when the entire floor is laid. This way you can finish this bridging nicely.
