Hexagon tiles: the trend of 2022
Currently, it's a huge trend: Tiles in a hexagonal shape. We also know them as Hexagonal tiles or honeycomb tiles.
Hexagon tiles are just a little different from standard square or rectangular tiles. They are made from different materials, in various colors, with or without a pattern, and even with motifs. Hexagon tiles are available for both walls and floors.
In this blog post, we will tell you more about these versatile Hexagon tiles. Hopefully, you'll be as enthusiastic as we are.

Why choose Hexagon tiles?
Square tiles, rectangular tiles, fish-scale tiles, diamond-shaped tiles and much more. There is everything available when it comes to tiles for a wall or a floor. This also includes tiles in a hexagonal shape. But why choose these Hexagonal tiles out of all those shapes?
Create ambiance with Hexagon tiles
It's very simple. First and foremost, you choose them because you simply find them beautiful. They stand out, are bold, and can bring a room to life. You can choose to cover an entire floor or multiple walls with these tiles, or just a specific part of the floor or a wall.
For example, draw your guests' attention to the beautiful back wall of your toilet by choosing a special hexagonal tile. Much more fun than those standard square white tiles!

Hexagon tiles combine well
A major advantage of hexagonal tiles is that they combine incredibly well. Due to their lively shape, they pair nicely with various other building materials such as wood, stone, or steel. Building materials are often sleek and calm.
By combining them with Hexagon tiles in a special color or with a print, you create appropriate contrasts. Also, due to their shape, the tiles combine well with other elements.
Creating contrast with hexagon tiles
With Hexagon tiles, you can perfectly create contrasts. If you choose Hexagon tiles, we recommend using other materials in your home that provide more tranquility. The hexagonal shape can create a rather busy look. For example, tile part of your wall with small hexagon tiles and the rest with large rectangular tiles. This way, you create contrast and the appearance of your room won't be too busy. Also, play with colors, patterns, and motifs here.
One example is a combination of hexagonal tiles with a wooden herringbone floor in your living room. This creates a real eye-catcher.

Hexagon tiles are easy to install
Another reason to choose honeycomb tiles is that, despite their rather unusual shape, they are still easy to install. Because all 6 sides are equal, there is no one way in which the tiles are "correctly" placed. It doesn't matter which side of the tile is laid against another tile.
With patterned tiles, this can sometimes be different, but then it's usually not difficult to see which is the top or bottom of the tile. Just like standard square tiles, you can place hexagonal tiles on tile adhesive. Preferably use tile spacers to create the same grout width everywhere.
Different Hexagon tiles
Hexagonal tiles are tiles in the shape of a hexagon. The name says nothing about the color or the material from which the tiles are made. These hexagonal tiles are therefore available in countless varieties.
Whether you want to choose an authentic cement tile, a ceramic tile, mosaic tiles or natural stone tiles, it doesn't matter. Hexagonal tiles are available in all kinds of materials, colors, motifs and possibly with a print.

Ceramic Hexagon tiles
Ceramic tiles are widely used in bathrooms, toilets, or for kitchen walls. They are scratch-resistant, colorfast, dimensionally stable, and durable. Ceramic tiles can also be printed with designs these days, so there's something for everyone. Still, we often find ceramic tiles a bit dull. If you're going to choose them anyway, why not in a Hexagon shape?

Hexagon cement tiles
In a previous blog, we extensively discussed Portuguese or Cement tiles. We won't go too deep into it here. They are often handmade tiles with special color layers or patterns. The appearance of these tiles is often very unique. No two tiles are alike. Cement tiles are also made in Hexagon variants. They are placed by hand in a mold and colored by hand or even given a beautiful pattern. Our personal favorite!

Natural stone tiles in Hexagon shape
You used to see it everywhere: natural stone. It is an extremely durable material but is limited in availability because it is a natural product. Nothing can be done with its color and appearance. However, something can be done with its shape. We are increasingly finding natural stone tiles in a Hexagon shape. When laying natural stone, pay attention to the placement of the tiles. This requires a little more attention than with many other tiles. In a later blog, we will delve further into natural stone tiles.

Terracotta tiles in Hexagon shape
We see a lot of Terracotta in Italy, Spain, and Portugal. In a previous blog, we already talked about terracotta roof tiles from Italy. Typical red/orange bricks or roof tiles made of red clay. It looks beautifully warm and natural. The tiles are often handmade and fired in ovens, making them incredibly hard and very long-lasting. This variant can also be made in a Hexagon shape. Very nice if you want to create a Mediterranean atmosphere in your bathroom, toilet, or on the floor.

Hexagonal Mosaic tiles
Often seen in Arab countries in palaces and bathhouses: Mosaic. These are small stones laid in various color combinations to form patterns. Often square or rectangular stones, but hexagonal stones also appear here. In the Netherlands, we often see mosaics in bathrooms or toilets. Mosaic is available in mats as well as loose stones.

Hexagon tiles with print
Whether you're looking for large hexagon floor tiles or small hexagonal wall tiles, also consider tiles with a fun print. Above, we already mentioned several different material types you can choose from.
Many of these material types are also available with a print. Choose a floral print for a romantic ambiance in your toilet, for example, or a Portuguese print on your ceramic Hexagon tiles for the bathroom. Prints allow you to create very distinct atmospheres. Combine patterned tiles with plain tiles for contrast. Hexagonal tiles are already quite busy on their own, let alone with a print on them.

Hexagon tiles with a motif
In addition to Hexagon tiles with a print, you can also opt for Hexagon tiles with a motif. Sometimes you'll find unique design tiles with a relief created on the tile for the ultimate special look.
